Angelo Fair main de maitre is a couture brand born from the breadth of an artist’s vision to merge the past, present and future to create a wholly unique aesthetic.

Working in the ways of the old masters where a couturier could drape, cut and sew their own designs, Fair combines this high caliber of old world skills with an inborn sense of creativity and experimentation that makes his fashion not only modern but innovative.

A PAINTER’S EYE

“THE MASTERS & THE JOURNEY”

From an early age he desires to be a couturier. Raised by his grandmother who was a seamstress that made Parisian inspired dresses, his childhood was filled with images of Scherrer, Lacroix and Ungaro. The latter became the biggest inspiration for the designer’s work.

He leaves America at 20 and moves to Florence Italy where he studies fashion illustration and art. It was in Italy that he discovered the works of Roberto Capucci whose voluminous sculpture-like dresses forever stayed with the designer.

While in Italy he apprenticed at Museo Del Tessuto studying textiles and their properties, something that would become the foundation for his mastery of draping. He becomes a design assistant and trains with a former designer of Enrico Coveri and Byblos.

He returns back to New York to study fashion and tailoring at FIT. He works with a luxury design house and in the atelier of an haute couture master.

A SCULPTOR’S HAND

Inspired by his ideal Emanuel Ungaro who was a tailor, he moves to London to train as a bespoke tailor. While in London he works in a couture atelier. He meets the tailors of Savile Row who teach him how to strike a pattern and fit. He learns the art of couture hand sewing from a master tailor. He becomes an assistant and hand finishers to a Savile Row tailor.

He moves to Paris and study haute couture moulage while training as a modelista at the L’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. The French introduce him to Gres, Vionnet, working on a miniature mannequin and how to sculpt with fabric.

His trips to Palais Royal to study the master works of couturiers like Balmain, Balenciaga, Cardin.

Several years go by with the designer working in the technical side of fashion for different tailors and luxury brands  honing his know how and craft.
