INSPIRATION – ‘KANDINSKY’S JUNGLE’

Wassily Kandinsky, the Russian artist known for his ingenious work in abstract painting, was the inspiration for A/W 24 couture.

In delving into the life and work of such a famous artist, the goal of the house was to find a level of mystery or insights into his past that may not have been so widely known to the public.

In a collection entitled Kandinsky Jungle, Fair was moved by the painter’s travels in Northern Africa with his fiancé and fellow painter Gabriele Munter after his divorce from Anna Chimiakina.

Influenced by this period in Kandinsky’s life and the plains of the African wild, Fair mixed aspects of Kandinsky’s colour theory and abstract lines with African influence such patterns as braiding techniques, which he further studied as a crafting technique in both African and Japanese cultures.
