OBSIDIAN APOGEE

THE RE-ENTRY ASSEMBALGE
A visceral exploration of atmospheric friction and structural decay, Obsidian Apogee captures the moment of high-velocity descent. This piece from the Painting the Moon collection serves as a poetic study of “destruction of material,” translating the violent beauty of re-entry into a masterwork of textile art.
The core of the garment is a delicate foundation of hand-draped and pleated soft lavender tulle. This ethereal base is interrupted by a jagged landscape of silk organza fragments, meticulously layered to mimic shattered glass. These scraps are hand-beaded and “forged” onto the tulle using raw couture techniques, including visible overcast and slip stitching, to emphasize the theme of creative defiance. Encircling the body is a monumental, hovering black mass—a “crushed” sculpture in the John Chamberlain style. Built upon an exoskeleton of crumbled black paper-nylon tulle and enveloped in midnight silk organza, this architectural element represents the charred remains of a celestial voyage. The hemline reaches a dramatic crescendo with swirling, steam-treated recycled plastic, hand-painted and encased in resin to create a crystalline, obsidian-like finish.
