MIDNIGHT ON THE FAR SIDE

LOOK 2

A SCULPTURAL LUNAR ASSEMBLAGE

A profound exploration of volume and extraterrestrial mystery, this gown from the Painting the Moon collection redefines the architecture of haute couture. Inspired by the unseen topography of the lunar surface, the piece is a “soft sculpture” built upon a hidden exoskeleton of heavy, hand-crushed calico—a tribute to the industrial “crushed” techniques of John Chamberlain.

This structural core is masterfully enveloped in waves of navy silk satin organza, yellow silk organza, and diaphanous yellow chiffon. The front is veiled in a delicate drape of soft Italian tulle, creating a hazy, celestial atmosphere. The hem serves as a terrestrial garden at the edge of the infinite, featuring an intricate landscape of hand-made silk dupion flowers, hand-painted and embroidered buckram grass, and meticulous hand-beading. This silhouette challenges the traditional laws of dressmaking, offering a new sartorial language of form and shadow.

Materials: Navy Silk Satin Organza; Yellow Silk Organza and Chiffon; Italian Tulle; Heavy Calico; Silk Dupion; Resin-treated Buckram.

Technique: Chamberlain-style Calico “Crushing”; Hand-Built Internal Exoskeleton; Artisanal Silk Hand-Painting; Dimensional Hand-Embroidery and Floral Sculpting.

Silhouette: Avant-Garde “Soft Sculpture” Voluminous Gown.

Details: Hand-Beaded Lunar Landscape; 3D Silk Dupion Flora; Hand-Painted Buckram Grass Elements.
